I am posting this on iHub tomorrow, because I have met my limit of 1 post per day. The last article is the most important ...IMHO
Sometime back one of the Posters on this board stated that “Abandoned oil wells are NEVER re-opened”. Not unlike MJ1.
I found a link where in California, Oil Companies are doing just that – reopening old depleted oil wells and recovering massive amounts of oil from wells that have “recharged” themselves, by allowing the oil to seep back into the main cavity / location where the oil was drilled. (I never really thought about that but seems very plausible)
These links explain how old / abandoned / capped, oil wells are becoming profitable again. New Technology and Methods are capitalizing on dry holes or small amounts of oil discovered. Even Exxon is going back to the Bakken to recover old wells. (see link)

The petroleum industry and research community have been working for decades on various solutions to increase recovery rates. One group of researchers at CIPR, collaborating with researchers in China, has developed a new method for recovering more oil from wells – and not just more, far more.
