I beg to differ, their purpose is to manipulate the price of a targeted stock.
Just to bring those of you whom might have missed it, lets go back to when the concentrated attack actually began.. the first phase so to speak.
It was somewhere close to this time frame. Notice the smirking of the one speaking. We now know who he is and quite possibly why this was done. Pay very close attention to the date. There is a documented whole timeline out there on the inter-webs if interested.
Keep in mind here that Probes Reporter & Panda have already contacted the SEC at this point..
This was just a month after Zion's big press release....the attack begins in earnest.
After this, the timeline shows very well how the this progressed. This video laid out the attack plan very well.
Educate oneself on what happened, by who, and the why.

ZN did not fail to find oil, drop below 50ยข, make it's way onto the NASDAQ deficient list, or have an SEC investigation initiated because of "Boiler Rooms". ZN managed to accomplish all that entirely on it's own.
